Get your team together and help out this December.

We are going to be promoting a great way to spread some holiday cheer in the Sauk Rapids community from our own SRYHA family.  Would you please forward this on to all of your teams in the next day or two and cc myself so they have a direct contact if needed?  We would love for you to help encourage teams to participate.  This is not at all a requirement, just an team building and community service opportunity:

What: SRYHA Month of Caring

When: month of December, 2019

Why: demonstrate positive holiday spirit from the hockey association in the Sauk Rapids community

Who: each SRYHA team (Bantam/U15 to Mini-Mite) – both Bantam teams are already brainstorming their projects!

How: choose a volunteer opportunity in Sauk Rapids that would be special for your team, participate in the activity (at least an hour long) and forward photos and activity on to Lori Eich; lorieich@ymail.com.  Post on your personal social media pages, if you feel comfortable doing so (and everyone else in your group is comfortable as well) and #sryha!

Throughout the month of December, we would LOVE to shower the Sauk Rapids community with cheer from our very own teams and families.  We will promote any volunteer activities your team does with a variety of media channels:  Sauk Rapids Herald, SRYHA website, SRYHA Facebook page, and others.  The concept is simple: as a team, choose a community volunteer project sometime in the month of December, coordinate with your team and take photos!  Throughout this month, there are a number of projects available, so shouldn’t be too hard to find one that fits you.  Some ideas:

  • Sauk Rapids Fire Department Toys for Tots Drive, Dec. 7, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Bell ringing for Salvation Army at Coborn’s (visit the Salvation Army website for times available)
  • Adopt a family (multiple locations)
  • Winter gear/food drives for emergency shelters/schools (contact schools to find the biggest needs)
  • Visit a nursing home (Good Shepard and Country Manor are both located in Sauk Rapids – contact their facilities to find out best options for your group)
  • Assemble and send care packages to military overseas
  • Shovel snow/clean yards for Grandparents or those in need in your own neighborhoods
  • Create basic necessity bags for homeless people.  Great SR story here: https://www.saukrapidsherald.com/news-story

There are many other ways to serve in the community – be as creative as you want!  The goal is to showcase SRYHA and our teams as community supporters and volunteers!

Please let me know if you have any questions at all!  I’m sure I haven’t covered everything in this message
